What is Pop-Up Blocking?

Pop-up blocking technology is used to block advertisements that are built into many commercial Web sites. This technology can be found built directly into many Web browsers as well as antivirus and Internet security software packages. It also is incorporated in many toolbars that can be installed as a companion to a Web browser.

Pop-Up Windows on the T. Rowe Price Web site.

While pop-up blocking is very useful in most cases, this technology can also cause difficulties when browsing Web sites that use pop-up windows for legitimate functionality of those Web sites. There are locations on the T. Rowe Price Web site where the use of pop-up blocking technology will adversely affect the intended functionality of the site. These locations include launching Online Access Brokerage, 529 Accounts, myRetirement Plan, AccountMinder, and Portfolio Tracker from the Retail Online Access Portfolio Activity area. In addition, content within the Research section of troweprice.com and Online Statements launch in a pop-up window.

Why Does the Web site Sometimes Seem Slow?

The Web pages may occasionally load slowly for several reasons. During certain times of the day when there is a high level of traffic to the site or on the Internet, it may take longer for a page to load. The speed of a computer’s processor and modem also determine the speed at which a Web page loads.

Why Do Daily Prices on the Web Site Appear to Be Out of Date?

Information appearing on your screen can load from two locations: from an Internet server or from your computer’s cache, a portion of the hard drive that stores previously loaded Web pages. If the page loads from the cache, the information provided will be only as current as the last information from the Internet. If the information is not current, use the Reload or Refresh button at the top of your browser. If this does not produce updated information, you have to clear the cache and force the browser to seek the information directly from the Internet. For information on clearing the cache, check your browser’s help menu.

I Do Not See a Closed Lock at the Bottom of the T. Rowe Price Web Page, Is the Page Secure?

The way the Web page is designed may cause the browser not to display a closed lock, due to the use of frames. These frames segment the page into different parts, and the parts containing your information are secured by 128 bit encryption. You may check this security by clicking anywhere on the part of the page containing your personal information, using the right-hand mouse button. A menu will appear, and one of the options will be 'Properties' or 'View Frame Info,' depending on the Web browser you are using. Once selected, a separate window will appear stating the level of encryption, which shows that these pages are secure for your protection.

The T. Rowe Price Web site uses frames technology. On Web pages that use frames, be sure to select the correct frame on that screen by clicking the mouse somewhere within the frame containing the information you want to print.
